CHECK THE HISTORY!

LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME was originally choreographed on M.A.D.D. Rhythms Canada in 2003 in Lisa’s hometown of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This was a result of coming out of a summer filled with inspiration spending quality time with Dianne Walker, Jason Samuels Smith, Harold Cromer, Jimmy Slyde, etc at three legendary simultaneously positioned festivals; Robert L. Reed’s St. Louis Tap Festival, The Chicago Human Rhythm Project, and The L.A. Tap Festival. Nina Simone’s version of the tune “Love Me or Leave Me”, which was originally written in 1928 by Walter Donaldson with lyrics by Gus Kahn, was playing on repeat all summer long. It then became inevitable that Lisa wanted to explore choreography to such a masterpiece. After months in the shed with her company (original members including Danny Nielsen, Danielle La Touche, Amy Gardner, Courtney Woods, Ashley Steele, Eric Wagner, etc), they finally performed it for the 1st time in 2004. As the partnership with Bril Barrett, Martin “Tre” Dumas III and Jumaane continued ℅ the original M.A.D.D. Rhythms based in Chicago, they invited Lisa to set her choreography on their company which also included Starinah Dixon, Jabowen Dixon, Donnetta Jackson, Nico Rubio, Lee Howard and Cayla Trotter at that time (2005). From there, the rest is history. In 2012, Lisa had the honor of teaching this repertoire as part of the School of Jacob's Pillow tap program under the direction of Dianne Walker. The piece has been performed all over the world, from China, to Germany, to all across the US and Canada and continues to be a request for Lisa to teach and pass on to various ensembles and festivals world wide.
